PotD: Rhino on the Streets of Barranco

Rhino Hiding in Plain Sight

Sony A7RII : f/5.6@250th : ISO 1600 : EV 0.0 : FE 55mm f/1.8

This piece of street art of a rhino was also just across the road from the hostel I was staying at in Lima’s Barranco district. I’d taken so many photos of street art on my journey that I tried hard not to add this specimen to my collection. But as I walked passed it every day I kept on thinking that with all those crazy colours it was not doing a good job of hiding behind the trees and that there must be something smelling really good in that rubbish bin to lure it out from its usual habitat. As we all know, rhinos are shy creatures and a florid rhino in the urban jungle is no exception. It may give the impression with its flamboyant colouring that it’s trying to get your attention but put it in a meadow full of wild flowers and it almost completely disappears. You best be careful that you do not startle it as they are prone to charge. Like all rhinos their eyesight is poor and they rely mainly on smell. If you want to observe one up close, it’s best to be smelling of roses.
