PotD: The Dissent of Man

Finnish Parliament

I cycle passed the Finnish parliament building most days when heading to the office and there is a regular handful of protesters expressing their dissatisfaction with various state of affairs, not every day but often enough. It is unusual for a large vocal gathering to occur but it happens. Honestly, there appears to be not much need for mass dissent. I don’t think it’s apathy on the part of the Finnish populace, it’s just that, as a whole, things are basically okay and the fundamentals work – healthcare, education, public transport… Sure, things could always be better but, hey.

On this morning, I just had to stop to take this photo of a single protester getting himself and his sign ready for a long day ahead on the steps leading up to parliament. I have no idea what he was protesting against but the element of heroic futility loomed large. Hopefully, it’s a worthwhile cause.
