PotD: Peruvian Flag adds Colour

After having spent a happy childhood growing up in Lima, I returned here for the first time in over 30 years to see whether much had changed and if any memories still remained. I also decided that it was time for me to check out somewhere other than Miraflores to stay. I’d heard great things about the nearby Barranco district and chose the Lima Wari Suites as the place to lay my head. I don’t know if I’m just lucky or if the info / comments you get nowadays online allows you to make more considered judgements but, once again, I ended up in a great hostel, with lovely staff, a good breakfast, a large room, all in a nicely renovated early 20th century house a 10 mins walk from the main square.

This photo of the Peruvian flag is taken as I’m lying down on my bed and is painted onto the window pane above the adjoining door separating two rooms. I love the colours and how soft the diffused light is coming from the window above my head. I could have moved and possibly framed the flag within the doorframe to get a more graphic result but then I would have lost the sense of place and the mood coming from the surrounding space. Just out of shot is a slowly revolving ceiling fan, the movement and the sound also adding to the overall mood. I tried a few variations with the fan just coming into shot but it disturbed the balance and this was the shot that stood out for me. It didn’t take long to then fall asleep for my afternoon siesta. It’s a hard life.
