A countdown of 100 images for the 100 days leading up to the 100th Year of Finland's independence

Another beautiful sunny winter’s day here in Helsinki led to a walk along the western coastline with my partner – fresh snow on the ground, ice beginning to form on the sea, just glorious. The route took us passed the cemetery, which seemed much busier than usual, until we remembered that today is All Saint’s Day, the day when many go to pay their respects to their loved ones who have passed away, tending to the graves, placing fresh flowers and lighting candles. There was also this communal area where people were gathering to lay candles but I’m afraid I have no idea why. Looked beautiful though.
