A countdown of 100 images for the 100 days leading up to the 100th Year of Finland's independence
I’m trying to think of some words to go with this image that don’t end up sounding too weighted down with meaning, especially after a title like that. So, here are some words – random, interconnected, complex, simple, light, dark, detail, big picture, offshoots, winter, death, rebirth… I could go on but I think that’ll do, and a lot easier than trying to put them into a sentence. The sight of this tree on the banks of Töölönlahti set the tone for the day. I had avoided going to the office this morning to continue the work I’m doing on a series of photographs that I’m finding emotionally demanding, another personal project. Instead, I wandered around Helsinki with my camera. The first snows of winter, sunshine all around, blue skies… What a beautiful day! Feeling grounded, probably not quite as much as this tree.
