Finland 100: 20 – Glass and Circles

I thought I was just going for a quick swim and a sauna when I visited the Yrjönkadun Uimahalli, the rather grand retro swimming pool in the centre of town that still exudes its original 1920’s charm. With alternate days for men and women to use the facilities, swimwear is optional; the restaurant on the second floor comes with waiter service and you can even book a meeting room. It was only when I got to the showers that I noticed this graphic work of art in front of me. It’s actually a relatively common piece of furniture in sports halls, the place where people hang their towel and wash-things, but the blue light reflecting off the pool and coming through the glass bricks made it all pop. There are not too many places to hide a camera when wandering around naked so I had to be a little discreet and obvious at the same time so that no-one would think I was trying to take a photo of their naked selves. I think I got away with it!
