Photo of the Day: Eye on the Wall
Sony A7RII : f/5@250th : ISO 640 : EV +0.7 : FE 55mm f/1.8
There are times when you are walking around with a camera and you just can’t seem to find something worthwhile to shoot. Over time, I’ve come to realise that the problem is more to do with my mind’s eye not having clicked into focus yet than there actually not being anything out there to capture. It’s not always about the big picture and it takes a mental effort to distinguish what’s in front of you into its separate parts to see if there’s a photograph there waiting to happen. Take this picture… From a distance, the artwork on the wall was not particularly eye-catching and, from what remains of the poster of the model’s face, I wouldn’t think the headshot was that inspiring. It’s what time has done to the two elements, one in B&W, the other very much in colour, that has allowed this strong graphic, semi-abstract ‘Eye on the Wall’ to surface. All it needed was for me to get up close with the camera and put the four sides of the frame around the essential elements.
Personally, I love the texture and colours of this image. Technically, any decent camera with a good auto mode would give a similar result, but few cameras in a 35mm format would have the resolution to allow me to reproduce this image as a very large print and place it on my wall! There are so many great camera systems out there nowadays that allow you to take great pictures. Luckily for me, not only am I loving the experience of shooting with the Sony A7RII, I also have the added bonus of being able to use that high resolution if I need it. From where I’m sitting writing this post, I can see the Epson Stylus Pro 9890 printer. I’m getting excited!
