A countdown of 100 images for the 100 days leading up to the 100th Year of Finland's independence

A beautiful autumn morning to show off ‘Musiikkitalo‘, or Helsinki Music Centre; it was completed in 2011 and took over from Finlandia Hall as the main concert venue. It is also a building I walk passed most mornings and evenings on my way to and from work. One day I must make it inside beyond the cafe and actually hear me some culture! The closest I’ve got was sitting on the lawn you see in the photo with hundreds of others and watching a live broadcast from inside the venue of the pianist Lang Lang as part of the Helsinki Festival late this summer. A lovely surprise and not a bad place to start.

In the background, peaking over the top, is the Parliament building covered in a fake façade as it undergoes renovation work. And the crane reflected in the glass is probably part of the construction work for the new central library Oodi.
